Last 2010, National Nutritional Council (NNC-7) recognized the role of the media in the need to spread good nutrition awareness to mitigate and lessen the massive hunger and malnutrition problems our country is facing. That is why the National Nutritional Council (NNC) has been doing the very best they can to address this very issue. But this time, it's with the aid of the media stakeholders and practitioners on promoting good nutrition.
The Consultative Meeting with Public Information Officers and Media gave a viable venue for the exchange of definite action plans in accelerating the programs of the NNC which was also a workshop on the nutrition scenario of Cebu and Region 7 at the Crown Regency Hotel in Cebu City. During that time, media personalities from Print, Radio, TV, bloggers and I/Os (Information Offiers from Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental and Siquijor from LGUs and Government agencies gathered. Also, the Broadcaster’s Manual which contains all the great information that will aid in promoting good nutrition loaded with facts and information for public education was released and distributed.
After the consultative meeting and workshop, a Call to action signing was done to seal the commitment of these media men and women in the promotion of good nutrition and that a media network had to be created to sustain and continue the starting efforts towards this nutrition advocacy.
Fast forward to 2011, January was when a Fellowship night event was organized and also the formal induction of officers for the MIND-7 (Media Information Network for Nutrition and Development). After that, meetings were initiated to plan the year's activities in which was presented in May during the MIND-7 General Assembly, where the constitution and by laws was ratified and unveiling of plans for nutrition month 2011 and beyond activities.
